Northumberland National Park is well known for its scenic routes and stunning wildlife. It’s the most unpopulated and remote national park in the whole of England. As such, your experience of the place will be utterly relaxing. Tourists flock here when they want to get away from it all and be one with nature. It’s tranquil, calm, and home to loads of great attractions. It’s simply impossible to do and see everything in this national park. However, with this guide, you’ll be able to experience the best things on offer.

Go On A Guided Walk

Northumberland National Park is famous for being an excellent walking destination. There are various routes to walk around and enjoy throughout your day. Although you can do this on your own, it’s recommended you take a guided walk. The experienced park rangers will take you to the best places in the park. You’ll see some amazing wildlife and the most picturesque settings. All the while you’ll be filled with expert knowledge in the area. It’s well worth it and much better than walking alone.

Horse Riding & Cycling

The park plays host to numerous great cycle paths. They’re ideal for mountain bikers, cyclists, and horse riders too. These paths can be found all over the vast park. Hareshaw Linn is a popular destination for cyclists as there’s so much to explore on the path. There’s a load of woodland wildlife and a stunning waterfall. On a hot day, it’s the perfect place to cycle to, and then cool off with a dip in the waterfall. If this doesn’t convince you then, I know the scenic landscape will.

Birdwatching

For people that want a relaxing day, you can take part in a spot of bird watching. You’ll be amazed at how many breeds you’ll see flying around the park. Most birdwatchers will tell you to look out for two in particular. Keep an eye out for the rare black grouse and the curlew. The latter of which is the emblem of the national park! For families, it’s the perfect way to induce some group fun. Make a tally of all the birds you’ve seen, and see who spotted the most at the end. And, while you’re at it, you may as well enjoy some of the other gorgeous wildlife too.

Stargazing

No trip to the Northumberland National Park is complete without stargazing. That’s right when the sun sets, the fun continues. As the sky turns black, you get presented with an incredible experience. Stargazing in the national park is one of the best things you’ll ever do. I challenge you to find a better stargazing spot in the country! You’ll find loads of great places within the park to stargaze from. There are even Dark Sky Discovery Sites in Cawfields and Walltown. These are probably the two best places to gaze from. On the right night, you’ll be able to see a whole galaxy of luminous stars.

Northumberland National Park is a phenomenal place to visit. It’s the perfect place to spend a long summer day and enjoy a peaceful, natural, environment.
